STATUS: Enacted

This law amended and expanded upon the existing state equal pay act to narrow employer defenses, increase pay transparency, and prohibit inquiry into prior salary.

This law amended the Equal Pay Act of 2003, to: require equal pay for employees of the opposite sex performing the same or substantially similar work on jobs the performance of which requires substantially similar skill, effort, and responsibility; narrow the reasons employers can use to justify a pay difference; make it unlawful act for an employer to require an employee to sign a contract or waiver that would prohibit the employee from disclosing or discussing the employee’s wages or salary; prohibit an employer from obtaining the salary history of a prospective employee from that employee, or from a current or former employer.
