State Equal Pay Act prohibiting compensation discrimination on the basis of sex or race for equal work with certain enumerated defenses and prohibiting employer retaliation against potential employees for failure to provide a record of their prior wage history.

The Alabama Equal Pay Act prohibits compensation discrimination on the basis of sex or race for equal work, except in the following cases: seniority system, merit system, or system that measures earnings by quantity or quality of production. The bill also prohibits employers from retaliating against potential employees who do not provide a record of their prior wage history. The law provides a 2 year statute of limitations for an employee to file a claim of wage discrimination.
