STATUS: Enacted

This bill provides 1 week of paid family leave starting from the death of a qualifying family member (i.e., a family member for whom the employee could have taken medical leave or child-bonding leave before the relative died).

Providing that an allowable purpose for family leave is any leave taken by an employee during the seven calendar days following the death of the family member for whom the employee would have qualified to take medical leave for the birth of their child or would have qualified for family bonding leave.”Family member” means a child, grandchild, grandparent, parent, sibling, or spouse of an employee, and also includes any individual who regularly resides in the employee’s home or where the relationship creates an expectation that the employee care for the person, and that individual depends on the employee for care.
