STATUS: Enacted

This law requires employers to disclose wage range and benefits in job postings and to applicants. Employers are also required to set wage ranges in good faith.

This bill expands Maryland’s existing pay transparency law to require employers to disclose wage wage range, a general description of benefits, and any other compensation in external and external job postings. If a job opportunity is available without an associated posting, this same information must be provided to applicants before a discussion about compensation or at any time upon request. Employers are required to set wage ranges in good faith. The bill prohibits retaliation against employees for exercising their rights under the law. Complaints of non-compliance may be filed with Maryland’s Commissioner of the Division of Labor and Industry. If the Commissioner determines a violation has occured, they will order compliance and may assess civil penalties.
