STATUS: Enacted

This bill amends the Illinois Human Rights Act to apply to all employers employing at least one employee, as opposed to 15 or more employees, and contains a religious exemption.

This bill redefines “employer” as a person employing at least one employee, rather than the previous 15 employee minimum, for at least 20 weeks out of a calendar year. The bill also provides that “employer” does not include any place of worship with respect to the employment of individuals of a particular religion to perform work connected with the carrying on by the place of worship of its activities.
