The bill would have amended the Equal Pay Law of 1956, prohibiting employers from inquiring about or relying upon a potential employee’s prior salary, and would have prohibited employers from retaliating against employees who inquire, make a claim, or otherwise participate in an investigation alleging an employer’s failure to adhere to the Act’s policies. The bill would also have added an aditional year for a complaint to be brought under this Act, allowing for a total of three years from the time a violation occurs. Lastly, the bill would have established the Equal Pay Commission to investigate, analyze, and study the factors, causes, and impact of pay disparity based on gender.
