Maine law requires that employers of more than 10 employees provide up to 40 hours of paid sick leave per year, accrued at a rate of one hour for every 40 hours worked. Paid sick leave may be used for an employee’s or their family member’s mental or physical illness, injury or health condition, required care, or preventative measures. An employee may also use paid sick leave to address their or their family member’s needs if they have been a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault. For the purposes of this law, family member is defined expansively.
