Provides for the accrual of one hour of paid sick leave for every 52 hours worked for all qualifying employees employed by employers of all sizes.

Vermont law requires employers to provide non-exempt employees with paid sick leave accrued at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked. The employee may use and accrue up to 40 hours of paid sick leave per year. Paid sick leave may be used for their own illness or injury or healthcare needs as well as for the health needs of their “sick or injured parent, grandparent, spouse, child, brother, sister, parent-in-law, grandchild, or foster child” or to accompany “a parent, grandparent, spouse, or parent-in-law to an appointment related to his or her long-term care.” Paid sick leave also applies to time off taken by an employee to obtain services or care for themselves or their family member, as specified above, who has faced domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Employers, regardless of number of employees must provide paid sick leave as described above.
